If a tree falls in the forest…

The answer is yes.

I am a soundless tree,
union, number,
triple knot infinity,
rolled down the mountain
to say, we’re all dying
to be heard.

Countless deaths
each day milled
into scraps of tea-stained paper,
pressed into bathroom stalls,
scrawled across the backsides
of privacy fences.

Here, too.

Carved in the windowsill
of that corner booth
where people laugh
now, or stare out
the window
                    at nothing.
