Not a Murder

But a lone crow
owns the landscape,
gorging on acres of sweet millet and dove grass.

His beak, a gaffe, stripping the earth bare-
spare as a bone,
no opposition but the rain.

Susan Pilewski teaches English at Suffolk Community College and SUNY Stony Brook. Her work has appeared in such publications as The Long Island Quarterly, Chronogram, The ASBH Exchange, Talesian, Oberon and Long Island Sounds: An Anthology of Poetry. Her first full-length collection of poetry, Fetish, was published in 2007 by Writers Ink Press.
